What's your story of England?
How you can have a 'very English chat', a respectful conversation to overcome growing hatred and division around our national identity
Celebrate England Together 1100 years of unity for greater togetherness.
Not many realise that England actually has a birthday - and it’s the 1100th anniversary next year on July 12th 2027.
But we urgently need to act now, a year ahead, to seize a major opportunity to build greater cohesion and togetherness while preventing the commemoration being hijacked by extremists.
England Together: 1100 Years
- what’s your England is a community-led campaign marking the 1100th
anniversary of the founding of England in 927 AD, when King Æthelsta, the grandson of Alfred the Great, unified the warring Anglo‑Saxon and Viking kingdoms into a single political community, what we now know today as England.
We’re leading a call to seize the
opportunity. Find out more on our news pages
